 Tahawwur Rana news LIVE updates: Mumbai terror attacks plotter Tahawwur Hussain Rana will arrive in India on a special flight after the US Supreme Court rejected his plea against his extradition. A multi-agency team has gone to the US to bring him back.



Rana is a Pakistan-born Canadian national and close associate of one of the main conspirators of the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks David Coleman Headley alias Daood Gilani, a US citizen.

On November 26, 2008, a group of 10 Pakistan-sponsored Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorists carried out a coordinated attack on Mumbai CST railway station, two luxury hotels and a Jewish centre, after they sneaked into India's financial capital using the sea route in the Arabian Sea.

As many as 166 people were killed in the nearly 60-hour assault that sent shockwaves across the country and even brought India and Pakistan to the brink of war.

The Pakistan foreign office, in the country's first reaction to Tahawwur Rana's extradition to India, pointed out at his Canadian nationality.

“Tahawwur Rana has not renewed his Pakistani documents in the last two decades. His Canadian nationality is very clear," the statement said.

BJP MP Manoj Tiwari said on Thursday that before the Narendra Modi government came to power in 2014, the government ‘wanted to save’ people like Tahawwur Rana.

"The first resolve of the Narendra Modi government is that we will have zero tolerance against crime... Continuous efforts were being made to extradite Tahawwur Rana, the mastermind of the Mumbai attack. Before 2014, the governments wanted to save such people. Today, due to the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Tahawwur Rana is being extradited, and the punishment for his actions will be decided in the country's court," Tiwari told ANI.
